Hello, 2014/2015 School Year!

Wow, I can't believe how fast the summer went by!  Is it really time for the kiddos to come back to school?  It goes by a little faster every year.

All of the teachers at DAAS went back to work last week and I have to say, it was exciting to move back into my classroom and change a few things around and start fresh with new ideas.  It's a very different room from last year.  This coming week is orientation and I hope to meet many of my new students.  I met one already last week - Hi Andy!  I have my fingers crossed that I'll also be seeing some of my students from last year.  I think they taught me more than I taught them, believe it or not.

So many new things and so many new changes are happening!  I hope all of my new 2nd graders are as excited as I am about the 2014/2015 school year!

2nd Graders Get Noticed!

I can't believe that I forgot to post this!  Some of my girls, especially NaKayla and Azzure', were big on singing and dancing during free time.  There were SO MANY TIMES when they were singing TLC songs.  Now of course, that makes me feel a little older than I am, because I remember singing those same songs when I was in middle school.  I posted about it on my personal twitter and Chilli, from TLC, actually responded!

SUMMER! SUMMER! SUMMER!

Can you believe we've been on summer break for almost a week!?!?  I know I can't believe it!  I took some time after the school year ended to think about how I wanted to write this.  All I can say is THANK YOU!  All of you grew SO MUCH during this school year and I am so proud of every single one of you.  ALL of you moved up, no one stayed the same, and no one went down.  We moved up and we did that together.  Don't forget me when you're a cool third grader with a locker!

This was my first year teaching at DAAS and all of you made it such a wonderful first year experience.  I am so lucky to have had students that were filled with so much love in their hearts.  Don't ever, ever, ever lose that.  It is with kindness, dedication, and love that you will find the success you dream of for yourself.

I know that ALL of you will be reading and working hard this summer.  Some of you are even in summer school - extra high fives to my summer school kids!  That's amazing and I am so proud of you guys for wanting to be the BEST third grader you can be this fall. Until I see you in September, you can always leave a comment on the blog or email me at csheets@daask12.com You know I'd love to hear from all of you!  I miss you guys already!

I know that Miss Kyra asked before we were out of school if I was going to post more pictures.  Here they are kids!  All of the end of the year pictures that I have.

We LOVED skip counting videos in our classroom!
You can watch them at home on YouTube, too.
There are TONS of videos, more than just skip counting.
My niece Kloie even came to visit our classroom (and bring us cookies) as a way of saying THANK YOU to all the second graders who brought in spare change and helped us, as a school, donate over $500 to the Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan!  She was so excite to be in our classroom and I know you all loved her, too!  It made her feel like a celebrity for the day!

Not many kids came for the last day of school, but those who did, had a ton of fun playing and cleaning up our room for summer school.  We even had time to take some silly photos together!

End of the Year Behavior Raffle

Hello students and parents!  Mrs. Solomon, another 2nd grade teacher, and myself have teamed up for another behavior raffle!  The raffle will take place on the LAST day of school!  Students must be present on the last day in order to win.  Students can earn entries into the raffle by landing on blue or purple on our behavior clip chart at the end of the day.  Landing on blue gets you one entry, landing on purple gets you two entries!  We wanted to give our kids that work so hard a little something extra to look forward to as we go into the summer break!  Check out our prizes below!

THIRD PRIZE #2

There are so many exciting things coming up in the final month or so of school and this is just the first!  There is still another field trip in the works for those students who have worked hard all year (and maybe a surprise to go along with that trip).  We also have our final behavior lunch on June 2nd for the students who earned 1 yellow or less (and zero reds) throughout the month of May!  Positive support from home goes a long way, so parents, please be sure to support your students for the hard work that they put in each and every day at DAAS!

Spring Break Photos!

Hello 2nd grade! I know I showed you many pictures in class, but a lot of you asked if I would upload more to the blog to show other people at home!  As promised, I have new and exciting pictures to share from my trip!  I hope you enjoy them and don't forget to leave a comment on the blog!

Happy Sunday!

I hope that you've all enjoyed the long weekend that we've had!  I did want to send out a quick reminder to all of my students (and their parents) about what is up and coming in the next week.  Since we missed school on Friday, our tests will be on Monday (that's tomorrow!).  DO NOT FORGET YOUR HOMEWORK!!!  It's very important to make working on it a habit.  Tomorrow's tests are in reading (School's Around the World), spelling, math (telling time to the half hour, fifteen minute, and 5 minutes), and social studies (study that packet!!!).  It sounds like a lot, but we have a fun activity in the afternoon to make it all better.  This week we will also go back to working on science and we might have a few new additions to our classroom!

Here are a few photos of our lovelies hard at work during reading and enjoying Brain Pop Jr. - our favorite!
